Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake Recipes
Although I’m writing this post in the spring, I want to talk about Halloween. 🙂
That’s because when I think about chocolate and peanut butter, I think about my favorite Halloween candy!
Reece’s peanut butter cups…drool.
I will always choose chocolate over candy or chips.
And I like to implement something I call “Parent Tax” on Halloween when I take my daughter out.
It means I get to take a few pieces of candy for my efforts with her costume, the special breakfasts and lunches she gets on Halloween, and taking her out trick-or treating.
(If you couldn’t tell – I love all the holidays and go all out. I get that from my mama!)

So, Parent Tax.
Which for me means I get to have a few packages of Reece’s peanut butter cups or Reece’s Pieces.
Miss O is all about the lollipops anyways, so it’s no biggie to her.
I started thinking about a chocolate peanut butter mug cake, filled with mini chocolate peanut butter cups…
If I make one of these chocolate peanut butter mug cakes on Halloween, I might not even need to take a Parent Tax! lol

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake Ingredients
- cocoa powder
- creamy peanut butter
- melted butter
- granulated sugar (brown sugar, erythritol, monk fruit, white sugar)
- egg
- mini peanut butter cups (or chopped pb cups)
Keto Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake
Most of the ingredients in this chocolate peanut butter mug cake are already naturally keto.
Cocoa powder, egg, butter, all keto-friendly (or keto-encouraged! lol).
The main ingredients you have to make sure you pick a keto version are the sugars.
For the granulated sugar, use monk fruit or erythritol to keep this chocolate mug cake keto.
You could also chop up keto peanut butter cups like these ones.
If you want to add extra chocolate, choose keto chocolate chips or chop up a keto chocolate bar.
Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Mug Cake
Most of the conventional peanut butter cups are not vegan as they’re made with milk.
These ones are vegan, lower in sugar, and are delicious!
(I love all the candy from that brand – these are my ultimate faves – seriously, get them!)
You can use vegan butter, and vegan chocolate chips (if you’re adding extra chocolate, but you don’t need this) to make this a vegan chocolate peanut butter cup mug cake.
The trickiest thing to replace in this recipe is the egg.
I have had the best results with using 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, mixing them into a tablespoon of non-dairy milk, and letting it rest for 5 minutes.
This resting time is very important, because it will give the chia seeds a chance to “set up” like an egg (so you don’t end up with a vegan chocolate peanut butter mug pudding!).
You can also use this vegan chocolate mug cake recipe (minus the candy canes!), and add in the vegan chocolate peanut butter cups.

How to Make This Peanut Butter Cup Mug Cake
I couldn’t find any mini peanut butter cups to link to, but if you can find those locally, you can use those.
Otherwise use any regular-sized peanut butter cups, and just chop them up.
You can even substitute with peanut butter chips, or in a pinch just use chocolate chips.
Melt the butter and peanut butter (I did this right in my mug).
Add in the cocoa powder, mashing any cocoa lumps with your fork, and the sugar.
Mix in the egg.
Stir in the peanut butter cups (and/or chocolate chips) and then microwave.
This mug cake recipe took 1 minute 15 seconds to cook perfectly in your microwave, but yours might be slightly different.
Start at 1 minute, and add 15 seconds until perfectly done.
Enjoy this decadent but healthy chocolate mug cake, or even top with whipped cream, coconut whipped cream, or ice cream.
