Chocolate Peppermint Christmas Mug Cake
I am very festive about all the seasons, but particularly Christmas, so I couldn’t wait to share this easy Christmas mug cake with you!
Enjoy this Christmas mug cake as it is, or follow the tips below for substitutions to make it sugar-free, gluten-free, or vegan.
I find the peppermint flavor strong enough with the candy cane pieces mixed in with the chocolate.
They melt ever so slightly in the microwave and that brings out their flavor into the chocolate cake.
If you want a stronger peppermint chocolate cake taste, add a drop of peppermint oil.
Just a drop! Peppermint oil is super strong and if you use too much it can overpower a cake.

Christmas Mug Cake Tips
To crush your candy canes, the easiest way is to bash them with a rolling pin. Great reliever of any holiday stress you might be storing too! 😉
There are no eggs in this mug cake, so to make it vegan, just use a non-dairy milk. And for the butter, either use vegan butter, or oil.
To make this a gluten-free Christmas mug cake, substitute an all-purpose flour mix like this one for the flour in the recipe.
Paleo flours like coconut flour and almond flour won’t work for this recipe. You can check out the naturally gluten-free mug cake recipes here.
I didn’t want a super peppermint-y mug cake so I prefer this mug cake recipe with just the chopped candy canes in the cake and on top. If you want a bigger peppermint chocolate cake taste, add a drop of pure peppermint extract.
It took my microwave 90 seconds to perfectly cook this mug cake.
Start with 1 minute, and then add 15 second increments if it needs a bit more time to cook.
